By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Prices for livestock feed sharply increased in Turkmenistan's Mary province, Turkmen media reported.

The price rise is due to the fact that in the spring there was almost no precipitation in the province, and farmers could not grow enough feed, the reports said.

As a result, prices increased more than twice in autumn.

"Thus, a kilogram of oil cake went up from 1.5 manats to 3 manats, and a kilogram of bran - from 0.3 manats to 1.5 manats. Subsequently, meat and milk prices also rose. The cost of a kilogram of beef increased from 17 manats to 27 manats, the cost of a 1.5-liter milk increased from 3.5 manats to 5 manats," the reports read.

Most of the small cattle in Turkmenistan is bred in Mary, making it the largest livestock breeding province in the country.

There are plans to the step-by-step privatization of livestock farms that are on the balance sheet of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Turkmenistan. Land plots will be given to producers by allocating preferential state loans.
