Uzbekistan is planning to accede to the Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms Against Unauthorized Duplication of Their Phonograms (Geneva, Oct. 29, 1971), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Copyright Treaty (Geneva, Dec. 20, 1996), the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (Geneva, Dec. 20, 1996), the Uzbek media reported.

According to the information, during the latest plenary session, the lower house of the Uzbek parliament considered several draft laws aimed at acceding the international treaties on the protection of copyright.

"These documents were developed in order to ensure the execution of the provisions of the joint statement of the heads of two states during the official visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the USA on May 15-17, 2018, providing for Uzbekistan’s membership in these treaties, as well as the relevant decree of the head of the country signed at the end of the visit," the lower house noted in its statement.

According to the members of the parliament, the accession of Uzbekistan to these treaties will serve to resolve an issue that is becoming increasingly global - ensuring the protection of copyrights to works of art, literary and artistic works, ultimately, further improving the country's image in the world community.
