The volume of Iran's fishery product exports during first five months of Iran's calendar year (started March 2018) were 39,000 tons, while the country exported other products including Trout and Sturgeon to Azerbaijan and other Caspian Sea states.

"The volume of canned tuna exports during first five months of the year were 350 tons, worth $1.6M, while annual canned tuna productions in Iran's provinces including Isfahan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Gilan are 800 million tons," Isa Golshahi, Iran Fisheries Organization's Director General for Quality Improvement, told Trend.

The second meeting of the Commission on conservation, rational use of aquatic bio resources of the Caspian Sea and management of joint reserve recently gathered in Baku.

One of the outcomes of the meeting was the decision to extend the ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon species in the Caspian Sea until the end of 2019 and the development of general recommendations for the restoration of their population.

"The meeting agreed to extend the ban commercial sturgeon fishing from the Caspian Sea. Naturally, the agreement would be in favor of preservation of Caspian Sea stock reserves. Since then sturgeon fish farming has improved, the established farms are rising in the international markets and all countries consider Iran's high quality products," Isa Golshahi said.

"The agreement would preserve the sea if all the Caspian Sea states remain committed to it and follow the rules that were intend to protect and restoration of sea stock reserves. Iran has always obeyed the procedures," he said.

He also spoke about Iran's fishery exports to Russia and Iraq.

"Iran exports fishery to Russia, and so far none of country's export cargoes were sent back, however, there were some complaints over the size of fish,'' he noted.

The official also noted the export to Iraq, saying that "Iran's fishery exports to Iraq have faced some challenges due to some reasons, so proper banking system, insurance and diplomacy can certainly help."
