Iran will import livestock and meat from the Port of Trabzon in Turkey to Maku Free Trade and Industrial Zone, said Gholamreza Suleymani, managing director of the Industrial Zone.

He noted that work is underway in the Industrial Zone for ensuring the livestock import and two large refrigerator compartments will be built for this purpose, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Suleymani pointed out that the country needs to import livestock by the end of the year in order to balance the market. Corresponding licenses are needed from the veterinary bodies of the two countries for ensuring livestock imports from Trabzon, he added.

“Livestock import is necessary for supporting the region’s economic development. Iran intends to use the potential of Maku Free Trade and Industrial Zone in livestock imports from Turkey. Both Turkish and Iranian economy will benefit from this,” said Suleymani.

“It is necessary to follow the rules of Turkey in livestock imports from Trabzon and it is very important for us to get support from Trabzon governor for accelerating this process.”
