Handwoven carpet exports of Iran's Golestan increase by 60%

In the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), handwoven carpet export of Iran's Golestan province has increased by 60 percent compared to the previous year, Deputy Head of Golestan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization Darvish Ali Hassanzadeh said, Trend reports via IRNA.

He noted that 12 percent of the those employed in the province work in handwoven carpet and handicrafts industry.

In the current Iranian year, Golestan has exported 25,000 square meters of handwoven carpets worth $1.3 million, Hassanzadeh said.

He added that 82,000 square meters of carpets were woven in the province in the current year.

As it comes to the support for carpet weavers of the province, granting credits to individuals, insurance of carpet weavers, training courses for professional development, creation of carpet making shops are envisaged in support programs of Golestan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization, Hassanzadeh said.

This year, 38 carpet making shops have been commissioned, he said, adding that each carpet weaver received credits up to 100 million rials (roughly $2,380) with a 4 percent interest rate.

He added that 50,000 people are employed as carpet weavers in Golestan.
