By the end of this year, rice production in Azerbaijan’s Astara district will increase by more than 50 percent compared to last year, deputy director of "Astara duyu", a major rice producer in Azerbaijan, Etibar Salimov told Trend.
He reminded that the volume of rice production amounted to about 1,000 tons last year.
“In accordance with our calculations, these volumes may exceed 1,500 tons in 2019,” he said. “At the same time, about 1,000 tons of rice were harvested from 930 hectares of land in the Astara district in 2018.”
He noted that among the local varieties, such varieties as Sadri, Hasani, Pahriz, traditionally grown in the Astara zone, give the biggest yield.
He added that the yield of local varieties of rice exceeds 30-35 centners per hectare.
