By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Growing potatoes is banned in Selseleh county of Iran's Lorestan province, Sharif Khosravi, governor of Selheleh, said, Trend reports via IRNA.

Khosravi noted that if the decision proves to be effective, it will be applied in other counties of the province as well.

In the previous year the total area of fields allocated for potatoes and other plants that require much water was decreased from 3,500 hectares to 1,300 hectares, Khosravi noted.

He added that the taken measures aim to protect the water and soil resources.

A special program has been designed for planting saffron, safflower, medicinal plants and rapeseed, which are financially beneficial, the governor said.

Selseleh has over 40,000 hectares of land allocated for agriculture.
