Uzbekistan to double trade with Russian Irkutsk region

Governor of the Russian Irkutsk region Sergey Levchenko met with the Consul General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk Yusup Kabulzhanov where the sides agreed to increase the trade turnover twice, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

For many years Uzbekistan has been one of the main trade partners of the Irkutsk region among the CIS countries. Uzbekistan accounts for over 10 percent of the region’s trade with the CIS countries. In 2018, foreign trade turnover exceeded $82 million, an increase of nearly 4 percent.

The development of commodity circulation between the region and Uzbekistan was discussed during the meeting. The parties touched upon the supply of fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as processed products of agriculture to Priangarie,

Sergei Levchenko stressed that the Irkutsk region is ready to cooperate in this field, taking into account the observance of phytosanitary and other norms stipulated by the legislation of the states.

In turn, the Consul General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk said that one of the tasks was the development of cooperation in the economic sphere. In particular, there is every prospect to double the export turnover. The authorities of Uzbekistan intend to exclude mediation in the sale of fruits and vegetables and make deliveries directly from agricultural producers to consumers.

As a result of negotiations, the parties agreed to further develop economic contacts, create conditions for the growth of trade, investment, expansion of humanitarian ties to realize the potential of bilateral cooperation.
