In the last Iranian year (March 21, 2018-March 20, 2019), agricultural exports of Iran's East Azerbaijan province increased by 9 percent compared to the preceding year (March 21, 2017-March 20,2018), said Akbar Fathi, the Head of East Azerbaijan Agricultural Jihad Organization, Trend reports with reference to IRNA.
Fathi noted that in the last year, agricultural exports of East Azerbaijan amounted to $290 million.
Main agricultural exports of the province were raisins, dairy products, tomatoes, fruit juice, lettuce and cabbage, he said. In his words, these products were exported to over 30 countries including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Afghanistan, the UAE, Romania, Russia and ex-Yugoslav countries.
The agricultural exports of East Azerbaijan province accounted for 13 percent of its total non-oil exports, Fathi said.
Some 23 percent of the province's labor force works in the agricultural sector and the total amount of annual agricultural production is about five million tons.
