The supply of seeds for processing at the seed processing plants in Khachmaz and Sheki was discussed as part of the meetings of specialists from Azerbaijan’s State Seed Fund under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan with farmers in the regions of Azerbaijan, Emin Aliyev, Chairman of State Seed Fund under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, told Trend.

According to Aliyev, farmers will begin supplying seeds for processing at these 2 plants during the beginning of summer.

"The farmers of the Khachmaz and Sheki districts will begin to supply seeds for the processing plants in Khachmaz and Sheki starting from about the second half of June of this year," said Aliyev.

The chairman noted that the farmers of neighboring districts – namely Siyazan, Shabran and Guba - are also involved in this process.

"Considering that the network of seed processing plants in Azerbaijan will be expanded, we plan to hold meetings with farmers in all regions in order to adjust the entire seed supply process. In the medium term, 5 seed processing plants are expected to open in the country," Aliyev said.

According to the chairman, together with the import, the country has currently embarked on an increase in domestic seed production.

The State Seed Fund was established under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan as per the decree of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, due to the increased need of the country for new high-yielding and drought-resistant types of seeds, and to strengthen the food security of Azerbaijan in general.
