Food prices increase in Uzbek market

In May 2019, food items prices increased by 16.3 percent in Uzbekistan compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports referring to The State Committee of Republic Uzbekistan on Statistics.

“Compared to May 2018, the prices of rice have increased by 57.8 percent, of milk by 24.4 percent, of beef (excluding the meat without bones) by 17.7 percent, of mutton by 17.2 percent, of flour by 17.1 percent,” the statement says. “The minimal price increase in May is displayed by prices of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (1.4 percent and 1.5 percent respectively).”

According to the data provided, prices on cabbage increased 2.9 times, on carrots 2.3 times, on onion 1.6 times and on beet 1.4 times.

“Furthermore, the bread products prices increased by 30.9 percent, the meat and fish products prices increased by 17 percent, the milk products prices increased by 16.9 percent and the public catering prices increased by 16.5 percent,” the statement reads.

On average, the prices on goods and services on consumer market increased by six percent in the period of January-May 2019. Compared to May 2018, the average price level within the consumer sector increased by 13.7 percent.

"In contrast, the significant price decrease is displayed by prices of cucumbers (-38.2 percent), of garlic (-30.2 percent), of grapes (-27.7 percent), of tomatoes (-23.2 percent), of apples (-22.3 percent) and of potatoes (-13.6 percent)," the State Committee reports.
