Ashgabat, Bucharest agree to intensify trade, economic co-op

State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Danut Neculaescu has met in Bucharest with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev, Trend reports via the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, transport, energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

An exchange of views took place on topical issues of the international agenda. In this context, issues of cooperation within international organizations, the intensification of relations within the EU-Central Asia format and the Romanian chairmanship of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2019 were discussed.

The parties expressed particular interest in enhancing and developing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. In this regard, the importance of the activities of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation was stressed.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues relating to the project of the Caspian Sea-Black Sea international transport route.

The project involves formation of the Eurasian transport corridor. In particular, in recent years, Turkmenistan has been exploring the possibility of transporting cargo, including liquefied gas to Constanta city. The supply route involves the use of special containers and runs through the Caspian Sea to Baku (Azerbaijan), then by rail to Batumi or Poti cities (Georgia, Black Sea region) and from there by sea to Romania.
