Processing facilities for production of biogas will be set at the garbage dump in the settlement of Lilo in Tbilisi, Trend reports with reference to newsgeorgia.ge.
The corresponding project documentation will be prepared by the Belgian company Geo Consultants.
“The existing garbage dump in Lilo is actually full, and it is possible to produce gas from these wastes. Full documentation of this project will be ready in September 2019. After that, a tender for the project will be announced. The project should be completed by 2021," said the mayor of Tbilisi Kakhaber Kaladze on July 3 at a meeting of the city government.
He noted that in order to significantly improve the infrastructure parameters existing at the site, a concept for the introduction and use of the latest technologies tested in Europe was developed.
The implementation of the gas production project at the dump will contribute to the improvement of the ecological situation in the Georgian capital.
Lilo is currently the only landfill in Tbilisi. Previously, the garbage was taken to the other end of the city in the Gldani district, which has been closed due to the violation of environmental standards and its proximity to a water reservoir.
