Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, July 15
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
The administration of the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat is preparing to implement a large project – the creation of a residential area with high-rise buildings intended for more than 100,000 people, with infrastructure functioning based on the "smart city" model, Trend reports referring to local Altyn Asyr TV channel.
The total area allotted for the construction of the complex covering more than 200 buildings is 744 hectares. Some 180 houses of different heights, from 12 to 35 floors, for 17,836 apartments are planned to be built.
In the coming years, a new city will grow in the north of Ashgabat, including an administrative core, service industries, medical institutions, cultural centers, universities and other social facilities, the report says.
"Buildings of 30-35 floors, to be the first in Turkmenistan, will be built in the new residential area. In this regard, technologies for ensuring their seismic resistance are of paramount importance, which was given particular attention to during the discussion of project implementation issues," Neytralni Turkmenistan newspaper writes.
Turkmenistan is located in a seismically dangerous zone. On the night of October 6, 1948, a magnitude 10 earthquake occurred in Ashgabat and claimed numerous lives.
In 2018, the population of Ashgabat exceeded one million people, due to the territorial expansion of the borders of Ashgabat. According to the 1995 census, the population of the city was 604,700 people.
