The Turkish government intends to increase the annual trade with Uzbekistan to $2 billion, Trend reports citing Turkish media.

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay made this announcement on Monday while speaking at a reception organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ankara. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev, who heads the delegation that arrived in Ankara to attend the meeting of the Turkey-Uzbekistan Joint Economic Commission.

“Thanks to our efforts, in the first five months of 2019, the trade turnover between our countries reached $900 million. We are confident that by the end of the year, this figure will increase to $2 billion, as we are taking steps in this direction,” Oktay said.

He also expressed confidence that the visit of the Uzbek delegation will make a significant contribution to the further strengthening of ties between the two friendly and fraternal countries.

Ganiev, in turn, stressed that the arrival of such a representative delegation in Turkey to participate in the meeting of the Joint Economic Commission Turkey-Uzbekistan is an evidence of the mutual interest of both countries in close cooperation in the economic sphere.

Turkey is one of the five largest trade partners of Uzbekistan along with Russia, China, Kazakhstan and South Korea.
