80% of carpets of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province may be exported

As many as 80 percent of the hand-woven carpets of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province may be exported, Head of Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization Mohammad Dehghan said, Trend reports with reference to Shata news agency.
He said that 290-300,000 square meters of carpet are woven in the province annually.
He added that carpets worth $20 million are exported annually from this province.
“The carpets are mainly exported to North America, Germany, Italy, Norway and other European countries, as well as to Pakistan, Turkey and the countries around the Persian Gulf,” he said.
He noted that 72,000 carpet weavers work in the province.
