Minister: Georgia to implement important agriculture projects

Important projects have been designed in Georgia to promote and develop cooperatives for the optimal use of pastures in the highlands and the development of animal husbandry, said Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.

According to him, these projects alongside with the project aimed to promote milk consolidation centers for cooperatives.were approved by the government after making some changes.

According to the changes, the Agency for the Development of Agriculture will support the agricultural cooperatives involved in the processing of milk. The project will promote co-financing and creation of milk processing companies and provide their co-financing, with the state co-financing limit for enterprises to be in the amount of 150,000 lari.

The Ministry also will co-finance the project for the development of livestock in the mountainous regions by allocating up to 60,000 lari to a beneficiary.

“The new agency, created after the reorganization of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, is gradually preparing for European accreditation, which is important for attracting funds from targeted European funds based on our greater integration with the EU,” Levan Davitashvili said.

According to the minister, the unitary structure will be more focused on the needs of farmers and the development of villages. It will also be able to implement the policies pursued by the ministry through more flexible mechanisms.

After the reorganization of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Agency for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives joined the Project Management Agency and formed the Agency for the Development of Agriculture.
