Uzbekistan boosts co-op with US city of Philadelphia

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States Javlon Wahabov, visited Pennsylvania on July 31, 2019, and held talks with representatives of official, business and non-governmental circles, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting with the Mayor of Philadelphia, Jim Kenney, the prospects for the development of Uzbek-American relations and the measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to enhance cooperation with the United States at both the federal and regional levels were discussed.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to jointly work out the issue of establishing twin-town relations between the city of Samarkand and Philadelphia.

During the visit, a meeting was also held with the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Global Philadelphia Association (GPA), Robert McNeil and Zabeth Teelucksingh. GPA is one of the largest scientific production associations in Philadelphia. More than 200 structures (companies, universities, clubs, cultural institutions, museums, clinics) are GPA members.

The conversation addressed the issue of establishing cooperation with members of the association. The reciprocal interest was noted in cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, health, education, and the organization of cultural events in Philadelphia.

The final event in the visit program of the Uzbek delegation was the opening ceremony of the Summer Summit of business circles and chambers of commerce in Philadelphia, which was attended by over 200 people from representatives of official, academic, non-governmental and business circles.

The event was organized by the leading chambers of commerce in the city of Philadelphia, specializing in the development of business contacts with the business community in Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Israel and other countries.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan invited members of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia to the Uzbek-American Business Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Washington DC on October 21-22.
