By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The volume of milk powder import to Georgia decreased due the increase in milk prices, Trend reports with reference to commersant.ge.

In July 2019, milk powder worth $2.3 million was imported into Georgia.

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), milk powder imported to Georgia in July has risen in price, due to lari depreciation.

Moreover, milk powder has risen in price at international markets.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), milk powder is produced in limited quantities, which may contribute to the rise in its prices at the international level.

In January-July 2019, milk powder worth $9.9 million was imported into Georgia, (2.5 percent less compared to the same period in 2018), the total volume of which amounted to 50.8 million liters (14.3 percent less compared to 2018).

The volume of milk powder imports has grown rapidly over the past three months, but it has declined this May-July. As a result, in 2019 about 13 percent less milk powder was imported in Georgia than in 2018.

As for export, Georgia does not produce milk powder.
