By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgian distribution companies will increase prices for their products from 5 percent to 15 percent in the first half of September 2019, said the head of the Georgian Distributors Business Association, Iva Chkonia, Trend reports with reference to bm.ge.

As Chkonia explains, the reason for the increase in prices for basic products is the instability of the exchange rate and an increase in fuel prices.

“In the first half of September, food prices will increase by 5 percent, if the situation does not change, in the second half of September prices are expected to continue to rise,” said Chkonia.

According to him, the reason is the floating rate of lari, which for the last 5-6 years has been depreciating.

“Salaries of the population do not grow, the consumer basket becomes more expensive. Therefore, it is possible that a number of companies will simply cease operations. Not only imports but also locally produced products will go up in price, since local production needs imported raw materials,” said Iva Chkonia.
