By Fakhri Vakilov -Trend:

The volume of cotton produced in Uzbekistan from January to July 2019 decreased by a third, while exports increased during this period, Trend reports citing State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

"Cotton exports amounted to $222 million, textile products were exported at $771.2 million," read the message.

In 2018, Uzbekistan did not meet the plan in cotton production. The cool weather and absence of rain prevented the normal development of cotton. Because of this, the volume of cotton produced in the seven months of 2019 amounted to only 320,000 tons.

About 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and one million tons of cotton fiber are produced in Uzbekistan annually. Of these, about 50 percent of the produced cotton fiber is exported. Fiber worth $141.5 million was exported to Chine alone in the first half of 2019.

Head of the strategic forecasting department of the Uztextile association Dilbar Muhammedova stated that by 2025, Uzbekistan plans to completely abandon the export of cotton fiber and independently ensure its processing in the domestic market.
