The value of manufacturing of Kazakhstan’s light industry has increased by 14.3 percent during January-June 2019 and amounted to 58.7 billion tenge, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan.

The information has been disclosed by Chairman of Industrial Development and Industrial Safety Committee Kanat Baitov during the briefing. He noted that the light industry is among the prioritized areas by the government of Kazakhstan.

“As at July 1, 2019, the number of ventures operating in the light industry amounted to 1,016 ventures, 96 percent of which are small businesses. Some 13,000 people are employed here. These ventures manufacture clothes for defense and law enforcement forces, work clothing and footwear, as well as production for residents of the country,” Baitov said.

Furthermore, five projects in the light industry worth 7.3 billion tenge have been implemented during 2018, including two on the territory of the Ontustik special economic zone.

“This year, there are plans to launch three new projects worth 2.5 billion tenge, which will create 165 new work places,” the report said.

Within the framework of ‘economy of simple things’ implementation, second tier banks of Kazakhstan have approved 15 projects in the light industry worth 2.7 billion tenge. The ministry has also developed the roadmap for light industry development for 2019-2021, which has been approved by the government.
