The area of irrigated land of Kazakhstan should be increased up to three million hectares by 2030, President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the president.
He made the statement within the framework of his first state of the nation address.
According to Tokayev, agriculture is the main resource of the country, but it is not being fully used.
“We possess of a significant potential for manufacturing of organic and ecologically pure products, which is in demand both in Kazakhstan and foreign countries,” Tokayev noted.
He added that the expansion of irrigated land area will allow to increase the production of agricultural goods by 4.5 times. “The ministries of trade and integration, agriculture should support farmers in sale of their goods on foreign markets,” the president said.
Tokayev also highlighted that the country should diverge from agricultural raw materials export, which currently equals 70 percent, whereas the processing plants are only 40 percent loaded.
“The relevant issue is the attraction of foreign investors into agriculture. The negotiations are already being held, the government should reach certain results,” Tokayev concluded.
