Georgia’s power plants generated 1,055 million kWh of electricity in July 2019, which is 16.8 percent less compared to July 2018, Trend reports referring to International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET).

In July 2018, the total volume reached 1.26 million kWh.

The decrease in the production on a yearly basis comes from the decrease in thermal (-52 percent) and hydro power generation (-17 percent), offsetting the increase in wind power generation (+11 percent).

Compared to June 2019, in July 2019 the power generation decreased by 12 percent (in June 2019, total generation was 1.19 million kWh) due to a decrease in electricity produced by thermal power plants (52 percent less) and hydropower plants (12 percent less) more than offsetting an increase in wind power generation (+63 percent compared to June 2019).

In July 2019, electricity consumption on the local market amounted to 1.109 million kWh (+1 percent and +4 percent compared to July 2018 and June 2019 respectively). The total consumption exceeded the total power generation by 54 million kWh which comprises around 5 percent of total generation.

In contrast, in July 2018, the difference between total electricity generation and consumption resulted in a surplus of 175 million kWh, that was 14 percent of the total generation for the month.
