Date harvest continues in Iran's Sistan & Baluchestan province

Since late May 2019, 70,000 tons of dates have been harvested in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province, an official with Sistan and Baluchestan Agricultural Jihad Organization Ardashir Shahraki said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Shahraki noted that annually, over 230,000 tons of dates are produced in Sistan and Baluchestan.

He added that the date harvest will continue till late October 2019.

The dates from Sistan and Baluchestan, along with the dates from Iran's other provinces, are exported to the Gulf countries, Europe and Russia, he said.

Most of the province's date orchards are in its Saravan, Sib and Suran, Iranshahr and Nikshahr counties, Shahraki said.

The official noted that the date production employs over 40,000 Iranians.

Sistan and Baluchestan has date orchards covering an area of 57,000 hectares, 45,000 hectares of which are fruitful, he added.
