By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The mechanism for subsidizing wheat transportation from Kazakhstan to Georgia will be launched in October, said Levan Silagava, executive director of the Georgian Association of Flour Producers, Trend reports citing bm.ge.

Silagava noted that subsidizing the transportation of wheat from Kazakhstan allows the government to have an alternative mechanism in case of economic problems with Russia.

“If there is a competitive price on the Kazakhstan market, this mechanism will be implemented and there will be an opportunity to diversify wheat supply,” Silagawa said.

Wheat imported from Russia to Georgia currently occupies about 80-90 percent of the country's reserves. The Georgian government began negotiations with the Kazakh side in the process of finding an alternative market.

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava earlieer announced the launch of the mechanism to subsidy for the transportation of wheat from Kazakhstan.

“The government of Kazakhstan will subsidize the transportation of wheat to the Georgian market and reduce tariffs to 50 percent, which will allow us to get Kazakh wheat at relatively affordable prices,” Turnava said.
