Trend:

Iranian customs have authorized to clear the US cars with Asian brand despite ban on imports of cars, Esmaeil Zamani, Managing Director of the Arvand Free Zone Organization (AFZO) said.

Pointing to the latest situation of imported cars through the Arvand Free Zone Customs, Zamani stated that at the customs of the country there are a number of cars and abandoned goods, which should be released as soon as possible, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"We are in contact with the relevant agencies to allow clearance the imported cars," he said, noting that the cars have been paid for, and the vehicles should be cleared.

Referring to the number of imported vehicles in the area, The CEO of Arvand Free Zone said that in the Arvand Free Zone, there are 250 cars that still remain at the customs, some of which have engines over 2,500CC.

Zamani also added that 60 to 70 of these cars are from US-ordered Asian-brand cars, which are currently the most difficult to clear.

"The authorities have promised to accept clearance of these cars,” he said. “Clearance of imported cars with engines of up to 2,500CC capacity also requires government's approval.”

On June 20, 2018 Former Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari called on all the relevant organizations to put on hold import orders of some 1400 goods, including vehicles.

As per the new rules, vehicles entering the country will fall into four categories based on engine capacity.
