Uzbekistan signs deals on 22 projects with Japan for $4.7B

On October 7, 30 promising investment projects with Japan were presented to Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a meeting to discuss preparations for his visit to Japan, which is expected to take place in December, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Among the presented projects are:

- creation of agricultural clusters and greenhouses together with Itochu Corp.;

- production of chemical products (PET synthetic fibers, urea, melamine and others) with Sumitomo Corp.;

- construction of a coal-fired power plant with Mitsubishi;

- modernization of water treatment and water supply system with Marubeni Corp.;

- production of city electric buses and cars in conjunction with Itochu and Nissan companies and the production of household appliances under the Panasonic brand

During the meeting it was noted that Mitsubishi, Itochu, Sumitomo and Marubeni are the largest universal trading companies, covering all sectors of the economy.

In addition, agreements have already been reached with Japan on 22 projects worth $4.7 billion.

Among them, the development of horticulture in conjunction with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for $200 million; creation of cogeneration technologies (combined production of heat and electricity) in Bukhara, Nukus, Urgench, Fergana and Kuvasay with Kawasaki Concern for $ 866 million.

The list also includes the reconstruction of the Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Neurology and Stroke in Tashkent in conjunction with JICA for $ 100 million; the construction of a third and fourth combined-cycle plants at the Navoi Thermal Power Plant (TPP) together with Mitsubishi Corp. for $1.2 billion; production of a Isuzu D-MAX pickup truck based on the Samarkand Automobile Plant for $15 million.
