The construction of a road bridge across the Samur River at the Russian-Azerbaijani border will be completed in November 2019, Trend reports.

After the bridge commissioning, the bridge will be accessible for traffic.

The entire route connecting the border to Makhachkala city in Russia with the construction of the Derbent bypass and the entire road's expansion up to four lanes is planned to be commissioned in the upcoming years. The large-scale work in this direction is expected to be completed by 2030.

The decision to build a new bridge was made in accordance with the agreement between the governments of Russia and Azerbaijan, signed Sept. 13, 2013. The new bridge will replace the existing one, which was built in 1957.
