In the first six months (from March 21 till Sept. 22, 2019) of the current Iranian year, 48.8 million tons of cargo were transported via Shahid Rajaee Port in Iran's Hormozgan province, Director General of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization Allah-Morad Afifipour said, Trend reports via the website of Iran Ports and Maritime Organization.
Compared to the same period of the last year, the cargo transportation through the port increased by 3 percent, Afifipour said.
Afifipour added that during the reported period, 32 million tons of non-oil products, 16.8 million tons of oil products, 745,000 container, as well as 9.7 million passengers were transported via Shahid Rajaee Port.
The projects meant to be implemented in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 21, 2020) include the establishment of three platforms for oil products, development of the port's third phase, and providing container terminals with necessary equipment, the director said.
Work is ongoing to update the fourth and the fifth railway lines withing the port in order to increase the its shipping potential from 20 percent to 80 percent, Afifipour said, adding that the work has been completed by 54 percent.
