By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The size of penalty for violating parking rules has been increased from 10 ($3.37) to 50 lari ($16.86) in Georgia, Trend reports citing Georgian media outlets.

"The fine for violation of parking rules was 10 lari ($3.37). We submitted a bill to Parliament and demanded that the amount of the fine be increased. On October 29, the parliament decided to increase the fine, and now the fine for violating parking rules is 50 lari ($16.86)," said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze

"The increase in the fine for violation of parking rules is due to the need to streamline the transport system and the fact that the city already has a zone hourly parking,” Kaladze said.

The mayor of Tbilisi also noted changes in the rules for paying a fine, adding that protocols on the offense will be posted on a special web page.

“Car parking is free for local residents. For people from other areas, a car stop for 15 minutes is free. The cost of parking the car for 1 hour is 1 lari ($0.34),” he said.

Kaladze said that zonal hourly parking will first be piloted on streets adjacent to Kote Abkhadzi (former Leselidze Street) and Abanotubani and later will be rolled out across Tbilisi.

Streets adjacent to Kote Abkhadzi and Abanotubani will be divided into category A, B and C and tariffs will vary accordingly: Category A - 1 lari(about $0.37) per hour, category B - 2 lari(about $ 0.74), category C – 3 lari (about $1.10)

Paying the parking fee will be possible through payment machines, official website parking.tbilisi.gov.ge and a mobile application Tbilisi Parking.
