The first batch of tangerines from Georgian Adjara has been shipped to Poland in the amount of 80 tons, said Ekaterina Vepkhvadze, co-founder of the Georgian company Agritouch, Trend reports citing EastFruit information and analytical platform.

She noted that next week Georgian products will be presented in Carrefour stores in Poland under “Made in Georgia” brand.

As reported, until 2018, Georgia exported only insignificant volumes of tangerines to the Baltic countries and Poland.

This year, Slovenia, Singapore, Lithuania and Qatar have been added to the traditional export markets of Georgian tangerines. The traditional buyers of Georgian tangerines are Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

Purchase prices for tangerines this year range from 60 tetri (20 cents) to 1.5 lari (50 cents).

In the first 10 months of 2019, Georgia exported tangerines worth $ 2.2 million.

According to forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, in general, the harvest of citrus fruits will be 55,000 tons at the end of the harvest season, most of which will be exported. Reportedly, around 7,900 tons of citrus fruits have already been exported.

Compared to the last year, demand and prices for Georgian citrus fruits have increased, and the geography of markets has also expanded.
