Iran discloses funds allocated to develop modern irrigation systems

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 15

Some 150 million euros were allocated by the Iranian National Development Fund for the development of modern irrigation systems in Iran this Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 21, 2020), Executor of the modern irrigation systems project of the Iranian Agriculture Ministry Abbas Zare said.

“The allocated funds will be used for irrigation systems in Khuzestan province, 550,000 hectares in Iran's west and north-western areas, and 46,000 hectares in Sistan and Baluchestan province,” the executor of the project added, Trend reports referring to the ministry's website.

Zare added that five trillion rials (about $119 million) are envisaged in the Iranian budget for irrigation systems.

“The funds will be given to the relevant structures in the provinces,” the executor of the project said.

“The new irrigation systems must be created at an area of 170,000 hectares in Iran per year in accordance with the 6th Development Program (2017-2022),” Zare added.

"The project is to be implemented on a 220,000 hectare area this Iranian year,” the executor of the project said.

“The implementation of other projects has been completed by more than 50 percent,” Zare added.
