BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 18

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Imereti Greenery LLC, a major supplier of greenhouse vegetables to the Georgian market, intends toparticipate in agricultural tours, Trend reports with reference to EastFruit information and analytical platform.

According to Natia Khelaya, the company’s deputy director, in 2019 the company hosted several agrotours organized by travel companies as a pilot project.

The decision to participate in organizing the agrotours was made due to growing interest in this sphere, the deputy director added.

“The main income of Imereti Greenery is, of course, the sale of vegetables grown in greenhouses, but agricultural tours are an opportunity to diversify incomes,” she noted.

According to Khelaya, at present, tomatoes and lettuce are being harvested in greenhouses.

“We harvest tomato twice a year. The second season of the year usually begins in September-October and lasts at least six months. This year, the season began in December and will continue until June,” she said.

At this stage, Imereti Greenery products are delivered only to the Georgian market, to large supermarket chains such as Carrefour, Goodwill and others, hotel chains and restaurants, under its own brand.

According to Khelaya, 2019 year was stable in terms of crop and income.

Imereti Greenery LLC is a joint project of the Georgia Partnership Fund and the Dutch company Food Venture, in which a total of $4.8 million was invested.
