The Iranian parliament signed the order to increase VAT on a number of products, Trend reports referring to the Iranian parliament's website.
In accordance with the order, while exporting non-alcoholic beverages and other products harmful to health, except cigarettes and tobacco products, these products will be subject to a 16-percent tax and while importing these products, the products will be subject to a 36-percent tax.
The domestic cigarettes, tobacco products will be subject to a 25-percent tax, international brands of cigarettes and tobacco products – a 40-percent tax, the imported cigarettes and tobacco products – a 65-percent tax.
In accordance with the order, the imported raw tobacco will be subject to a 10-percent tax while the imported processed tobacco – a 35-percent tax.
The set prices will increase by five percent every year beginning from the second year. Thus, the domestic cigarettes and tobacco products will be subject to a 55-percent tax, international brands of cigarettes and tobacco products in Iran – a 95-percent tax and the imported cigarettes and tobacco products – a 125-percent tax.
During the voting, 158 MPs voted for the Iranian parliament’s order, 18 voted against it and 2 abstained.
