Georgia and Bulgaria have potential for cooperation in transport, communications sectors

There is significant potential for cooperation in the transport and communications sectors between Georgia and Bulgaria, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

Borissov made the remark at the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia in Davos, Switzerland.

As reported, the Georgian and Bulgarian prime ministers discussed bilateral economic relations and noted that Bulgaria has been among the top ten trading partners for Georgia in recent years.

Both sides expressed positive feedback on ferry services between Georgian and Bulgarian ports. The parties also discussed the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process of Georgia.

Georgia and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations in 1992. The two countries cooperate in the fields of economics, energy, transport, culture and education.

The trade turnover between Georgia and Bulgaria in 2018 amounted to about $440.4 million. The export from Georgia reached about $259 million, and import from Bulgaria - $181.5 million.
