Prices on books, newspapers and magazines up in Uzbekistan

Average consumer tariffs in Uzbekistan are increased by 0.6 percent in January, Trend reports citing State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Inflation in January made up 0.6 percent. Foodstuffs became more expensive by 1 percent, non-foodstuffs - by 0.2 percent, services - by 0.3 percent.

In annual terms (from January 2019 through January 2020), goods and services price in the consumer market increases by 14.3 percent on average.

The leadership in the growth of prices and tariffs belongs to food products, which in the first month of 2020 became more expensive by one percent, while non-food products added only 0.2 percent and services - 0.3 percent.

Of the major food groups observed, the most significant monthly increases were in fruit and vegetable products (3.9 percent) and eggs (3 percent).

Of the main types of meat products, prices of live and chilled fish and pork increased the most (1.2 percent). Price declines ranging from 0.7 percent to 1.6 percent were recorded for poultry meat.

Sugar prices increases by 0.3 percent in January, while confectionery products also increased in price by 0.3 percent on average. The prices of coffee, tea and other food products were stable during the month.

The seasonal factor largely determined the nature of price changes for fruit and vegetable products. Prices of garlic (13.3 percent), as well as fresh cucumbers and tomatoes (12.3 percent and 9.6 percent) were the most pronounced. At the same time, lemons became cheaper by 3.8 percent for the month and bananas by 0.8 percent.

Cream butter became 0.6 percent more expensive in January, margarine and animal fats - 0.4 percent. Vegetable oil prices remained the same as in the previous month.

Among the main groups of non-food products, the increase in prices, exceeding the average group value (0.2 percent), was registered for books, newspapers and magazines (11.5 percent), jewelry (1.2 percent), fabrics and yarns (0.5 percent), household textiles, kitchen utensils and appliances (0.4 percent), clothing, shoes, threads, detergents and cleaners (0.3 percent).

In annual terms (from January 2019 through January 2020), fuel (19.3 percent), jewellery (17.8 percent) and printed matter (16.8 percent) increased more significantly than other prices.

The cost of paid services to the population increased: recreation services - by 4.5 percent, transport - by 0.6 percent, household and cultural services, as well as medical services - by 0.5 percent, sports services - by 0.3 percent, education - by 0.1 percent. Tariffs for other observable types of services remained at the level of the previous month.
