By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

Eight tons of honey were exported by the Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association in 2019, Chairman of the Association Badraddin Khasratov told Trend.

“Two tons of exported honey accounted for the UAE,” the chairman said. "The Association more focuses on export to such countries as Iran, the UAE, in particular Dubai, and Qatar."

“The import volume of honey has greatly increased recently, which adversely affects the domestic sales volumes of the Association,” Khasratov added.

“The problem with export to the EU was connected with the ban on import of animal products to the EU,” the chairman said. “The Association appealed to the Food Safety Agency in 2019 to solve this problem. To date, the Food Safety Agency has already taken measures and the problem is planned to be solved by the end of 2020."

“Germany showed interest in import of honey from Azerbaijan in early 2020 and the Association plans to implement this project in the near future,” the chairman said.

The Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association, established in early 2016, unites 10,000 beekeepers and entrepreneurs in 50 districts - 46 farms in districts and four farms in cities.

The main goals of the Association are the development of beekeeping, the solution of specific problems of beekeepers and the development of a general concept for the development of beekeeping.
