Georgia increases weight of exported cattle

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 8

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The Georgian government has made amendment to the decree on the export of the products subject to veterinary control, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to the amendment, the weight of the cattle to be exported increased from 140 kg to 200 kg.

The restriction does not apply to the export of male cattle, but exporters remain obliged to present a document confirming the cattle breed.

The Georgian National Food Safety Agency said that the amendments will support increasing the cattle number and creating jobs in the sector.

Encouragement of livestock production is one of the main directions of the state policy, the agency said.

According to the agency, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is funding the Safety and Quality Investment in Livestock (SQIL) project implemented by Land O'Lakes Venture37, a US organization, in partnership with the Association of Farmers of Georgia and State University of Michigan.
