Iranian agricultural company partially pays off debt to saffron farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 19

One of Iranian agricultural companies of the Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran (CORC) has paid over 32 percent of total funds to farmers for purchasing of saffron, Managing Director of the CORC Hossein Shirzad said at a meeting of the Central Council of Trade and Agricultural Systems, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture.

Hossein Shirzad said that 40 percent of the remaining funds will be paid to the farmers over the next 10 days.

Shirzad added that the organization has implemented a number of plans for purchasing of saffron, according to which 72 tons of saffron were reserved.

The managing director also said that the work on the payment of tomatoes, purchased from farmers is nearing completion. At present 93 percent of debt is repaid to farmers and will be fully paid by the end of Iranian year (March 21, 2020).

Shirzad said that over the past Iranian year, Iran's agricultural and livestock sector has already recorded the surplus. Therefore, it is necessary to work actively in this direction.

Iran has produced over 400 tons of saffron this season.
