Producer Price Index decreases in Georgia

Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products decreased by 0.6 percent in January 2020 in Georgia compared to December 2019, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistical Service (Geostat).

In the reporting period, the prices for manufactured products decreased by 0.5 percent compared to December 2019, resulting in a -0.43 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change.

Within the group, noteworthy price decrease was registered for chemicals and chemical products (9.8 percent) and basic metals (2.2 percent), said Geostat.

For water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services prices went down by 2.9 percent, contributing -0.29 percentage points to the overall monthly index growth.

Compared to January 2019, the index growth increased by 7.1 percent in January 2020.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the manufactured products, as their prices increased by 7.4 percent, contributing 6.01 percentage points to the overall annual index growth.

An increase in the prices for food products (11.4 percent) was also observed.

The prices on the products from mining and quarrying increased by 20.8 percent, contributing 1.30 percentage points to the overall annual index growth.
