Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Adkham Ikramov met with President of Opera SRL (Italy) Paolo de Angelis, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
During the meeting, Ikramov informed about the activities of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan to improve the investment climate, liberalize the economy, as well as to ensure the protection of legitimate rights and interests of entrepreneurs and investors.
Paolo de Angelis noted that the purpose of his visit is to discuss plans to organize saffron plantations in Bakhmal district of Jizzak region. The preliminary estimate of the cost of this investment project is about $20 million.
Saffron is cultivated in Iran (90 percent), India, Greece, Italy, Spain, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
The cost of saffron in the international market ranges from 8,000 to 30,000 euros per kilogram: the higher the quality of the final product, the higher the selling price.
Both sides noted that such cooperation opens new opportunities for the development of bilateral relations between entrepreneurs of both countries, as well as contributes to the improvement of the investment climate.
