The issues of increasing food export from Uzbekistan were discussed at the meeting of Uzbek Ambassador to Latvia Kadambay Sultanov with Director General of the Food and Veterinary Service (PVS) of Latvia Maris Balodis in Riga, Trend reports with the reference to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen practical cooperation in facilitating the increase in Uzbek exports of fruits and vegetables to the Baltic States, Northern and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, as well as exchanged views on partnership between veterinary services of Uzbekistan and Latvia.
Maris Balodis gave a positive assessment of wide-scale reforms in the sphere of improving the system of food and veterinary security carried out in Uzbekistan and the country's efforts to increase exports of fruit and vegetable products. He expressed interest of PBS to deepen cooperation with the Uzbek side in these key areas.
Following the talks, an agreement was reached to organize a meeting of heads of veterinary structures of Uzbekistan and Latvia as part of their participation in the 88th General Assembly of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in Paris on 24-29 May. It was also agreed to arrange a visit of experts of the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service to Uzbekistan in the framework of the EU project "Border Management in Central Asia" (BOMCA) to conduct training courses and seminars on the specifics of the EU standardization system.
