Uzbekistan, Lithuania to expand trade, economic relations

A round of Uzbek-Lithuanian political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two states was held in Vilnius, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.

Delegations were headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Dilshod Ahatov and Deputy Foreign Minister of Lithuania Giedrius Cekuolis.

During the talks, the current state and prospects for deepening political dialogue, trade, economic and industrial cooperation, cooperation in cultural and humanitarian and other spheres were discussed in detail. The sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The sides noted the need to take concrete measures to boost trade-economic and investment interaction. It was stressed that the expeditious holding of the fifth session of Uzbek-Lithuanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation will facilitate the adoption of decisions aimed at boosting trade turnover between the two nations, creating favorable conditions for attracting investments, as well as expanding business activities.

During its stay in Vilnius on the same day, the Uzbek delegation held a meeting with Deputy Speaker of Lithuanian Seimas Irena Siauliene, during which the results of her visit to Uzbekistan in February this year, as well as the head of Lithuanian Seimas Interparliamentary Cooperation Group Valerius Simulik in December 2019, were assessed positively.

The interest in further development of cooperation between parliaments of two countries by mutual exchange of delegations and experience in legislative activity, and also the information-analytical materials promoting increase of efficiency of work of parliament were also noted during the talks.

The Lithuanian parliamentarian underlined the readiness to enhance cooperation in various mutually interesting and mutually beneficial aspects of economic and cultural-humanitarian relations.

The Uzbek delegation welcomed the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with Uzbekistan in the Seimas of Lithuania. It has been noted that this will help raise the level of bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Other issues on Uzbek-Lithuanian agenda have also been discussed during the meetings.
