Iran's Customs Administration imposed 100,000 rials (about $2) duty on export of each kilogram of onions, said Ali Akbar Shamani, director general of the Export Department at Iran's, Trend reports citing Islamic Republic of Iran’s Customs Administration (IRICA).
Shamani's letter states that the duty on export of onions will be in force until April 19, 2020.
According to the report, the duty on export of onions has been applied to regulate Iran's domestic market.
Currently, the price of 1 kg of onions is 80,000-100,000 rials (about $ 1.9-2.3) in Iran. It is predicted that prices will gradually fall by 30-40 percent.
In late February, the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) issued a report which said that the prices on onions in the country have increased by 24.4 percent in the 11th month (from Jan. 21, 2020 through Feb. 19, 2020) of this Iranian year, compared to the previous month (from Dec. 21, 2019 through Jan. 20, 2020).
