Trend:

Iran's auto import registration system needs updates to facilitate the process of release from customs, said the secretary of Iranian Automobile Importers Association.

Mehdi Dadfar has discussed the latest situation of releasing imported autos from the customs in an interview with Trend.

"Kerman Motor Company has started to unload imported vehicles from the customs and there were some successful releases," Dadfar noted.

" The major issue is registering the new orders and working with the old ones," he said adding that around 300 vehicles are in the customs.

"The technical terms in registration system were updated two years ago and all the documentation was prepared the ban on import ban," the secretary said. "In case of individual import of a new model, the Iranian National Standards Organization should implement necessary measures and issue permit."

"There is problem for individuals that seek to register new order and import vehicles since, it's difficult to modify the registration in the system," Dadfar added.

"The Department of Environment has changed its permits for numbering car plates in the past four months. In addition to permit for import vehicle and auto release from the customs, the department is also issuing environmental permit that would accompany previous permits," said the secretary.

"If a vehicle does not meet environmental standards, it should have not imported to the country; however, the process of adjusting to environmental permits should re-run again after the import," Dadfar said.

"The Trade and Promotion Organization, the IT department in the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and related offices have promised to address the issue. We hope the vehicles will be released from the customs soon," he added.
