Iran to commission several new copper plants in Semnan Province

Three copper plants will be commissioned with an investment of 750 billion rials (about $17.8 million) in Semnan province in northern Iran, in the current Iranian year (starting from March 20, 2020), said Mohammad Foruhar, deputy head of Semnan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization, said, Trend reports citing official website of the organization.

According to Foruhar, about 2,000 tons of copper products will be produced per year at the enterprises to be commissioned by the private sector and some 120 people will be employed.

Foruhar added that at present, it is possible to extract 750,000 tons of copper a year from the copper mines of Semnan province. As many as 342,000 tons of copper stone were extracted from the mines of the province in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The official said that in addition, enterprises for the production of ferrosilicon manganese and gypsum panels will be commissioned. These enterprises are expected to be commissioned in the first half of the year.

Iran's Semnan province has 42 types of mining materials. Over 22 million tons of mining materials are reported to be produced in the province annually. The province's proven mining reserves are about 600 million tons, while estimated reserves are around 1 billion tons.
