USAID helps Georgia to develop economic recovery plan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28

By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is helping the government of Georgia to develop a post-coronavirus recovery plan that focuses on increased employment opportunities, Trend reports with reference to the US Embassy in Georgia.

"As part of the US government's rapid response to COVID-19, USAID mission in Georgia is helping the government of Georgia prepare for a strong economic recovery. Right now, we are providing technical assistance to the government of Georgia to help it develop a post-COVID recovery plan that focuses on increased employment opportunities", the US Embassy in Georgia said in statement posted on its official Facebook page.

In turn, USAID said that the rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic means supporting families in need.

USAID began operating in Georgia in 1992. For 26 years, the American people have provided over $1.8 billion in assistance to Georgia through USAID. Building on this successful partnership, the US government dedicates approximately $40 million annually to 50 wide-reaching programs that support Georgia’s democratic, free-market, Western orientation.

Initiatives stimulate economic growth, develop democratic institutions, enhance energy security, mitigate climate change, improve education. These goals are especially important given Georgia's strengthening relationship with the European Union (EU) following the 2014 Association Agreement.
