Iran reveals volume of fishery production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30

As much as 1.29 million tons of fish and aquatic animals were grown and hunted in Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 20, 2020), Chairman of the Iran Fisheries Organization Nabiollah Khon-Mirzaei said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

According to Khon-Mirzaei, this figure has exceeded the plan of 1.25 million tons.

Khon-Mirzaei added that last Iranian year, 525,000 tons of fish and aquatic animals were grown, while 489,000 tons of fish and aquatic animals were grown in the preceding year (from March 21, 2018 through March 21, 2019).

The chairman said that 10.7 tons of sturgeon were grown last Iranian year in the country against the plan to produce 10 tons of sturgeon.

Khon-Mirzaei said that 46,000 tons of shrimp were grown last Iranian year, which was 8-percent increase on an annualized basis.

The chairman added that 374 million species of fish and shrimp were released into water reservoirs at various facilities to increase the fish stocks.
