The average cost of milk powder per kilogram in April was $2.70 in Georgia, which is lower compared to March of this year, Trend reports referring to Georgiandiary.org website.
The decline in the cost milk powder that began on the world market is already reflected in Georgian imports, the report said.
Milk powder has fallen in price on the global market; thus, the prices for imported milk powder also are expected to decline in Georgia. In the coming months, import of milk powder will increase, which will be facilitated by of insurance of differences in exchange rates.
Of the 18 million liters imported in April in Georgia, 55 percent was skimmed milk powder.
Over the past two months, imports of dairy products to the country as a whole increased by 22 percent compared to the previous two months, and imports of skimmed milk powder doubled. Volumes of the exports are still much less compared with imports.
In April, dairy exports accounted for 2 percent of the dairy trade in Georgia.
In the first four months of 2020, total imports to Georgia were 10 percent higher than during the same period in 2018.
